that are amazing
You may have already
heard, but I want to let you know about some changes in Ricochet's life. Since she’s too interested in chasing
birds/prey, she isn’t able to fulfill the role of service dog-breeder for Puppy Prodigies, so I decided to have her
spayed. I was disappointed, but focused on what she CAN do rather than what she can’t. And one of the things
she does best is surf!
So, her career path changed, and now she’s a SURFice dog! She has a
personal mission called “Surfin’ for Paws-abilities”, which raises money for charitable causes through her
surfing.
About the same time I was trying to train Ricochet NOT to chase birds, Pawsitive Teams was in
the process of matching one of their service dogs with a 15 year old boy named Patrick. When Patrick was a child, his
life changed in a split second when a car ran over him, pinning him underneath. Patrick suffered a C4-5 incomplete spinal
cord injury, and was diagnosed as a quadriplegic, and has used a wheelchair ever since.
As fate would
have it... one of Patrick's favorite activities is adaptive surfing. Yes... Patrick surfs! He's an amazing kid!!
So, it seemed like destiny that my little surfer girl's first fund raiser would be for this young surfer boy.
Last Thursday, Ricochet and Patrick got together, and completed the first ever tandem surfing ride between an adaptive
surfer and a dog!

Ricochet will be surfing in the Surf City Surf Dog contest in Huntington Beach on October
11th, where she’s hoping to raise money for two different causes for Patrick. One will benefit Patrick's charity
called "Help Patrick Walk" which pays for his intense physical therapy at Project Walk. The other will help
fund his new service dog, Kona from Pawsitive Teams.
So now comes the hard part... asking you for money!
The success of Ricochet's fundraising will be credited to the generosity of our friends and family. Unless Oprah steps
up!
